Private Pilates and Pilates-based Movement Class

Using the power of movement as a healing tool

What is Private Pilates?

Private Pilates is one-on-one personal training involving the use of Pilates equipment, which provides spring based movement resistance as well as assistance.

Angie has taught Pilates and Pilates based movement classes for over 30 years and tailors each one-on-one session to your individual needs. She supplements her teachings of movement, the physical body, the spirit, and energy with her knowledge of Chinese Medicine and the meridian system. Sessions will look different for everyone depending on physical health history, movement abilities, and body awareness.

You can expect to learn about anatomy, movement possibilities available to you individually, as well as energy spills and how to keep hold and cultivate the energy you have. As you break up physical stagnation through movement, you will notice change in breath, focus, sleep, digestion, and emotions.

What is Pilates-based Movement?

At the Center for Collaborative Health, our goal in offering Pilates-based Movement is to help fortify your life, by helping you ground into your body, build strength, cultivate poise, and connect with your authentic self.

Pilates-based movement is a group class that incorporates Pilates exercises with elements from Qigong, yoga, and other somatic movement. Pilates consists of low impact exercises that focus on strength, flexibility, correct alignment, and muscle balance. Qigong, and yoga add standing movement flow, self-massage, mindfulness, and breath work to the class.

Pilates based movement class is for anyone wanting to:

  • begin a movement regime and don’t know where to start,

  • recovering from injury or in recovery from addiction and needing mindful strength,

  • improve their flexibility while also feeling strong and centered,

  • reduce stress and anxiety,

  • deepen self-awareness,

  • feel better within themselves.

During a Pilates-based movement class we will start with some standing Qigong exercises that help us get rid of the “sticky” energy that may be lingering from our day and bring us to the present moment by quieting our nervous system and our mind. The middle of class you can expect to move your body in all directions, forward/backward, side to side, and rotation, using gravity as our resistance and focusing on our core. These movements are done on a mat on the floor and will gently challenge your flexibility, strength, and endurance. We end the class with some dynamic breathwork and gratitude. You can expect to walk out of class feeling more centered at ease in your body, mind and spirit.

This class runs approximately 55 minutes.
